Enzo Fernandez has been embroiled in yet more controversy following his racist chant about the French national team.
After Argentina’s Copa America triumph, Fernandez shared a video of himself and his international colleagues chanting a derogatory song against France.
The racist chant goes: “They play for France, but their parents are from Angola. Their mother is from Cameroon, while their father is from Nigeria. But their passport says French.”
Fernandez’s teammate Wesley Fofana called him out on social media as he made his feelings clear as Chelsea launched an internal investigation into the incident.
Ahead of returning to England to begin pre-season, the 23-year-old made an appearance in Argentina to commemorate the national team’s Copa America success.
He returned to his former side River Plate, where fans serenaded him with the same racist chant he was singing on the team bus.

In a social media post, Fernandez issued an apology for his behaviour.
“I want to apologise sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations,” he wrote.
“The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words. I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologise for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations.
“That video, that moment, those words, do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I am truly sorry.”
Fernandez, who graduated from River Plate’s youth academy, made 40 appearances across all competitions for the Blues last season.
He’ll reunite with his club colleagues once his summer break is over.
