Chelsea fans demanded that one player be sold after watching his performance against Wrexham.
On Wednesday night, Chelsea kicked off their pre-season tour of the United States with a friendly against League One side Wrexham at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The match ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw, Christopher Nkunku and Lesley Ugochukwu were the scorers for the Blues whilst Luke Bolton and Jack Marriott netted for Wrexham.
During the match, Chelsea fans were unhappy with the performance of full-back Ben Chilwell.
Reacting on social media, one fan said: “Sell Chilwell while we’re at it.”
Another tweeted: “Chilwell at fault. This was worth waking up for.”
A third fan added: “Chilwell can 100% not play lcb again please sell.”
Someone else wrote: “Just get rid of Chilwell, sell that guy now.”
A fifth commented: “Chilwell not suited for this system.”
Speaking after the match, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was asked about conceding goals due to his style of play, he said: “Hopefully, not too many. It is one of the risks that you have trying to build from behind.
“I have no doubt. I think you are going to concede in different ways, so you need to decide in which way you need to concede a goal.”
He added: “Sometimes teams that try to build from the back concede goals but I think you are going to score more than you concede.
“For sure, we did many things we can improve, but we started just two weeks ago. Tonight was important to start seeing the identity of the team and the identity is there.”
Chelsea will be back in action this weekend when they take on Celtic. The Blues will also face the likes of Club America, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Inter Milan in the coming weeks.
They will then host City at Stamford Bridge to kick off their 24/25 Premier League campaign.
