Cole Palmer scores early goal of the season contender as Chelsea and Wolves play out thriller

Cole Palmer scored an early goal of the season contender during Chelsea’s thrilling Premier League clash with Wolves.

On Sunday Chelsea travelled up to the Midlands to take on Wolves in their second game of the new Premier League season, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Fans and neutrals were treated to a frantic end-to-end contest in the first half, which began with Chelsea going 1-0 up inside 90 seconds courtesy of a Nicolas Jackson header.

Wolves responded well and Matheus Cunha netted the equaliser just before the half-hour mark following a brilliant run from Liverpool target Rayan Aït-Nouri.

That goal was good, but it was nothing on Palmer’s finish that put his side back in the lead.

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez launched a counter-attack with a brilliant ball up field to Nicolas Jackson, who then hooked the ball over the defender’s head into the Palmer’s path.

Noticing that Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa was off his line, the England star produced a first-time curling strike that looped over the keeper and into the back of the net.

It’s only match day 2, but the goal will surely be a goal of the season contender.

Chelsea’s joy was short-lived though as Jørgen Strand Larsen pulled the hosts level on the stroke of half-time to make the score 2-2.

The second half began in the same frantic fashion in which the first ended; Wolves were punished for switching off as Noni Madueke – public enemy number one in Wolverhampton – finished off a quick break forward to put Chelsea 3-2 up just minutes after the restart.
