James McClean breaks silence on ugly bust-up with Levi Colwill in Wrexham’s clash with Chelsea

James McClean has finally spoken out on his bust-up with Levi Colwill in Wrexham’s pre-season friendly against Chelsea.

Wrexham have made a promising start to their preparations for life in League One following promotion last season.

They held Premier League side Bournemouth to a 1-1 draw in their opening warm-up match before drawing 2-2 with Chelsea on Thursday.

Goals from Luke Bolton and Jack Marriott secured an impressive result for Phil Parkinson’s side at Levi’s Stadium in California, with Chelsea needing a late equaliser from Lesley Ugochukwu to salvage a draw after Christopher Nkunku’s opening goal.

There was a fiery moment in the opening minutes of the game when former Premier League star McClean clashed with Colwill.

A melee broke out between the two sets of players after Colwill reacted angrily to being caught late by McClean.

The pair had to be separated after Colwill grabbed McClean by the collar, with Wrexham manager Parkinson forced to intervene to prevent the situation from escalating further.

McClean has now taken to social media to post a cheeky comment, seemingly in reference to the incident.

Posting a picture of himself at a boxing and fitness gym, McClean wrote: “No pushing and shoving here, proper fighting [boxing glove emoji].”

McClean is no stranger to the sport of boxing and is known for using it to maintain his impressive fitness levels at the age of 35.

He was once put through his paces by legendary trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr, and previously hinted he would be willing to move into influencer boxing following his retirement from professional football.

Last year he posted a picture of himself sparring in a boxing ring, along with the caption: “Any em influencers want a dance partner?”

Wrexham continue their pre-season preparations with another friendly against Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday before taking on Fleetwood in their final warm-up match on Saturday.

They will then face Wycombe in their opening game of the new League One season the following weekend.
