Liverpool Could Close the Summer Transfer Window with a £60 Million Blockbuster

Anfield is being strongly linked with a top Serie A star.

The final week of the transfer window has arrived, and after all the anticipation, Liverpool has started to actively enhance their squad. Although they missed out on Martin Zubimendi, the Reds’ first summer signing comes from La Liga in the form of Giorgi Mamardashvili. The 23-year-old goalkeeper caught the attention of many top clubs after an impressive EURO campaign, and in the end, The Kop won the race to sign the Georgian star.

Quickly after securing Mamardashvili, Liverpool moved to acquire their second summer signing, Federico Chiesa, who has already arrived in England to undergo a medical. Earlier, Liverpool and Juventus reached an agreement on a deal worth approximately £12.5 million for the Italian forward, a figure considered quite a bargain for such a talented and experienced player like Chiesa.

Currently, Liverpool is still looking to strengthen their squad before the transfer window officially closes. With Joe Gomez potentially leaving Anfield, some sources suggest that The Kop will push to sign another center-back. If everything goes according to plan, Anfield could close the summer window with a blockbuster signing.

Bastoni is regularly linked with big clubs.

This morning, according to Fichajes, Liverpool is preparing to make a move for Alessandro Bastoni, the Inter Milan center-back. Not long ago, journalist Francois Plateau also reported that The Kop is closely monitoring the Italian star. Widely regarded as one of the best center-backs in Serie A, Bastoni, at 25, is undoubtedly a perfect long-term replacement for Virgil Van Dijk.

Inter Milan is expected to demand around £60 million for Bastoni, and with Liverpool having already raised nearly £40 million from the sales of Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg, and with Mamardashvili and Chiesa signed for a similar total fee, Liverpool is certainly capable of meeting Inter’s asking price. After all, they were previously ready to spend over £50 million to trigger Martin Zubimendi’s release clause.

Van Dijk is 33 years old and has just one year left on his contract.

While Van Dijk can perform well as a left-sided center-back, he is naturally right-footed, as are the rest of Liverpool’s center-backs. Therefore, the arrival of a top-class left-footed center-back like Bastoni could make a significant difference to Liverpool’s defense and overall play, opening up new tactical possibilities for Slot to explore.

However, there is no indication that Bastoni wants to leave Inter, so convincing the star to move to Anfield is expected to be a tough challenge for Liverpool.
