Manchester United have made a bid to sign another key target as they continue their summer spending spree.
So far this transfer window, United have already secured deals to bring in striker Joshua Zirkzee and young defender Leny Yoro.
Over the last few weeks, the likes of Adrien Rabiot, Manuel Ugarte, Xavi Simons and Matthijs de Ligt have also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
However, it is believed that the offer was rebuffed by the Bavarian club.
As reported by SPORTBILD’s Christian Falk, who wrote on social media: “Manchester United offer €35 Mio for Matthijs de Ligt (24). FC Bayern has rejected the offer.
“FC Bayern demand €50 Mio plus add-ons. Bayern have to sell players to buy new players. Negotiations between the clubs continue.”
Earlier in the month, it was claimed that United and De Ligt had agreed personal terms.
Recently speaking about the prospect of signing De Ligt, United boss Erik ten Hag said: “It remains to be seen whether Matthijs de Ligt will come… I know him well.
“I wanted to sign him two years ago but at that time, he was already very far along to join Bayern.”
The Dutchman added: “Believe it or not, his name did not come from me in the process.”
Aside from De Ligt, United are also looking at Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
Proving an update, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano wrote on social media: “Everton are preparing new contract proposal for Jarrad Branthwaite after rejecting two proposals from Manchester United.
“Club determined to keep Branthwaite unless huge bid arrives but Man United have no intention to pay £75/80m. New deal proposal to be sent this summer.”
United are back in pre-season action this weekend when they take on Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California
