A number of Premier League players and managers have revealed how to pronounce their names properly in a new video.
Every year commentators for the English top flight get sent a guide on how to say every the name of each player.
But fans also need to know how to say the names of their favourite players and new signings, leading to TNT Sports getting them to do just that as part of a pre-season filming session.
And it turns out that for some of the household names in the league, we’ve been seeing their names wrong all along.
The likes of Erling Haaland, Bruno Fernandes, Sean Dyche, Tomas Soucek and Nuno Espirito Santo, Tosin Adarabioyo all feature, while new additions to the league like Joshua Zirkzee, Arne Slot, Riccardo Calafiori and Niclas Fullkrug have also provided a necessary tutorial of sorts.
Many do not sound how they read and so the lesson proves beneficial for us fans when discussing players.
And it turns out that plenty of fans have realising they’ve been saying names wrong all along, even supposedly simple ones like Dyche – who has surprised many with the pronunciation;
In addition, Fernandes’ surname is actually “Fer-nanj”, while West Ham midfielder Soucek cleared up that it is in fact “So-check” that he should be referred to.
One admitted: “Who knew that Sean Dyche is the one that I have been mispronouncing!”
A second commented: “Still refuse to pronounce Bruno’s name the way he says it. I’m stuck in my ways.”
A third said: “Bruno what?????????”
A fourth added: “Joshua Zirkzee was definitely the hardest one to pronounce.”
A fifth commented: “Damn so the fifa commentators were right all along for Bruno fernanyanshhh.”
A final user claimed: “Haha that’s not the correct way to say Haaland, what is my man doing???”
